This year's TV appeal on BBC1 was the most successful ever, raising over £22.5 million.

That figure could more than double once cash from fundraisers and cheques is counted.

In 1999 Comic Relief raised £35 million, £14 million of which was raised on the night.

Comic Relief's website was also a huge success, collecting £1.25 million and breaking all records for online donations, anywhere.

More than 12 million viewers tuned in during the evening's highlights, including Big Brother, Popsters and The Big Ali G Interview.
