Paul Ross fails exam

It was a Paul versus Doon as the lowest-scoring pair tonight and so it fell to the remaining classmates to vote for who to keep. By six-to-one they chose Doon, leaving Paul the first expelled student. Paul said, "There are 8 great people in this room... and Doon."

First night viewer votes raised £90,000 for Comic Relief.

The three students singled out by the staff to sing for survival tomorrow are Doon, Fearne and Jo. Doon will sing Fever, Fearne will sing Driftwood and Jo will belt out Build Me Up Buttercup in the next edition, tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.25pm on BBC ONE.

In the not-so-private Academy lounge, Ruby Wax: "Remember the people in those reality TV shows who we used to think were so dull? That's us."
