As great as it would be to have region 1 discs of F&S (or, I should say, MORE region 1 discs than have been put out), a region-free player makes seeing all of these possible. I am from--and still in--the US and bought one region-free player (Google region-free DVD), and region-hacked another. Many sites name specific models and give details on how they were able to set the players to region 0, i.e., they will play anything. Perhaps paradoxically, I'm told that less-expensive players (Philips players available from Amazon, for example) tend to be more easily hacked. No guarantees, but I've had 100% luck.
I can tell you that it's worth it alone for the French & Saunders complete series 1-6 set! It's amazing. The compilations released in the US are good, but they're such a small fraction of what's on the 1-6 discs--they came out in May and I'm still enjoying them, especially the stuff I'd never seen until it was released.
Can't wait to see the live DVD--got to see the show in London in October, and I'm still incredulous! They were so good--so it'll be great to see it again when I'm not as distracted by being amazed just to be in the same room with them... :-D

I know the tour coming over here is too much to ask, but is a DVD?!

Does anybody know if the DVD is ever coming out in the Netherlands? I've tried to buy the DVD at Amazon, but they only accept creditcards. I even tried the German Amazon, who do sell the DVD and even claimed that it would be possible to pay with a bank-account, but apparently not with a foreign account. So does anyone have a solution to my problem (accept getting a creditcard...)?

I ordered the dvd from the cd.wow.nl website. You don't need a creditcard, you can choose to pay with you're bank-account.

Plus, if you google for "hacks" for your DVD player model...most players you can punch a code into your remote (a "hack" code) and it will play any DVD no matter the region....

I, too, am in the US, but I bought the 2 box set from amazon UK. I just had to have it. It plays in my Dell laptop. You just put it in and it lets you choose region 2. It's fantastic! I also found the code to change the region on my dvd player. Luck!! This brought me some great laughs at a very low time in my life.
Thanks girls!!
