From this weekend you have a chance to see Dawn French on the big screen in a bright new romantic comedy. Following the highs and lows of a young couple trying to conceive a baby, 'Maybe Baby' stars Hugh Laurie and Joely Richardson and is the directorial debut of the comedian and author Ben Elton.
French plays an Australian nurse at a fertillity clinic and is supported by starry support cast including Joanna Lumley, Rowan Atkinson and Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson. Elton adapted the story from his own semi-autobiographical novel, Inconceivable, and he will also script 'The Phantom of the Opera' for the screen.
In the same vein, Laurie's character is an ambitious writer aiming for a hit movie script, but finds the real paperchase is to hear the patter of tiny feet. Fertility experts will throw their hands up in horror at the craziness that follows! The $6.5 million movie opens in the UK on 2 June 2000.
